What I Actually Do as a Travel Advisor (Hint: It’s Much More Than Booking Hotels)

If you’ve never worked with a travel advisor before, you might picture someone spending a few minutes clicking a “Book Now” button and sending over a confirmation email.

I understand why.

For years, online booking sites have made travel seem like a simple transaction.

Choose your destination.
Pick your dates.
Enter your credit card.
Done.

But planning a vacation, especially for a family, is rarely that simple.

The reservation itself is often the easiest part.

Most of the work happens long before anything is ever booked.

Every Family Travels Differently

One of the first things I remind people is that there isn’t one “best” resort.

There’s only the best resort for your family.

A resort that your neighbors absolutely loved might not be the right fit for you.

That’s because vacations aren’t just about destinations.

They’re about people.

Your family has different personalities, different priorities, and different ideas of what makes a great trip.

Understanding those differences is where my work begins.

Before I Recommend Anything, I Ask Questions

Long before I send recommendations, I’m already thinking through dozens of details.

Questions like:

  • How old are your kids?
  • Is this everyone’s first passport?
  • Does someone have mobility concerns?
  • Would your family rather spend the day on the beach or at the pool?
  • Are you looking for quiet mornings or nonstop activities?
  • Is great food important?
  • Are connecting rooms a priority?
  • Is a nonstop flight worth paying a little more?
  • Is this trip celebrating something special?

Those questions help narrow hundreds of resorts into a handful that truly fit your family.

I Spend Hours Researching So You Don’t Have To

One of the biggest parts of my job is research.

I’m constantly comparing:

  • resorts
  • room categories
  • beaches
  • flight schedules
  • promotions
  • transportation options
  • recent resort updates
  • family amenities
  • dining options
  • kids’ clubs
  • water parks

I’m also staying up to date through supplier training, webinars, and destination education so I know what’s changed since someone’s last visit.

That way, you don’t have to spend your evenings opening twenty browser tabs and wondering if you’re making the right decision.

Sometimes It’s the Little Things That Matter Most

The biggest vacation frustrations are often caused by details people never thought to ask about.

Maybe the beach is rocky.

Maybe dinner reservations fill up weeks in advance.

Maybe the resort is so large that walking back to your room after a long day becomes exhausting.

Maybe your room is on the opposite side of the property from the splash pad your kids wanted to visit every day.

Those aren’t things most families think about while searching online.

But they’re exactly the kinds of details I try to catch before they become part of your vacation.

My Goal Isn’t to Give You More Choices

Many people assume more options are always better.

I actually think the opposite.

If I sent you a list of fifty resorts, I wouldn’t be helping.

I’d be giving you another project.

Instead, my goal is to do the research for you and present a small group of recommendations that genuinely fit what you’re looking for.

That way, you’re choosing between good options, not sorting through hundreds of possibilities.

Why I Love What I Do

At the end of the day, I don’t just help people book vacations.

I help families spend more time together and less time stressing over the planning.

Because the best vacations aren’t remembered for the booking process.

They’re remembered for the conversations over breakfast.

The laughs in the pool.

The sunsets on the beach.

The moments that happen when everyone finally has time to slow down.

That’s why I love helping families travel.

Not because I enjoy making reservations.

Because I enjoy helping create the memories that come long after the reservation is forgotten.

Ready to Start Planning?

If you’re thinking about a vacation but don’t know where to begin, I’d love to help.

We’ll start with a conversation about your family, your travel style, and what you’re hoping this trip will look like.

From there, I’ll do the research so you can spend less time comparing resorts and more time looking forward to your vacation.
